Every cyclist needs to learn some basic and more advanced skills, but at a certain point once you master those skills making gains becomes more about confidence in yourself on the bike.
I love kids and loved the idea of getting more kids on bikes, so how could I say no. However, after volunteering for this coaching position I realized that I was actually going to have to ride my mountain bike every week.
We quickly picked up speed and I quickly moved my hands to squeeze my brakes and slow myself down. It was 2009 and I was definitely still a novice cyclist, deathly afraid of going downhill swiftly.
Being a cyclist who can handle their bike is just as important as being a fast one, if not more so! Speed and handling skills should go hand in hand, but many times they do not.
